At a cost of AED 3 Million, SRTA develops Al Estiqlal Square as part of its development plan

“Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority, represented by Road Maintenance Department, has completed partial maintenance works on Al-Estiqlal street between Al-Nud and Abu-Shagara as part of its development plan for the current year at a cost of AED 3 million,” said Dr. Mohsin Balwan, Road Maintenance Director.

Dr. Balwan added that the completed maintenance works in the project are additional to a series of maintenance and rehabilitation projects on a number of streets and intersections of the city. This project implemented according to the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah to support infrastructure sector in all streets and areas of Sharjah and to provide modern and advanced roads network to keep up with the cultural and architectural renaissance in Sharjah according to international standards and specifications. Besides, it was followed up by H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of Sharjah Executive Council.

He pointed out that the Authority pays great attention to the main streets of the city that experiencing heavy traffic, maintains them, and improves them necessarily on a regular basis. For example, Al-Estiqlal street is one of the streets that considered as an exit to vehicles heading to Dubai and considered as an important exit to vehicles coming from King Faisal and Al-Ittihad street towards the city center.The maintenance works included asphalt renovation and U-turns modification and expansion to regulate and increase the flow of traffic.

Traffic calming works were completed, 9 speed bumps were put into place and traffic signboards were installed, he said. Fences that are 1000m long and traffic lights for pedestrians were installed to preserve the security and safety of road users and to prevent the indiscriminate crossing of the street, as well as, road marking and repaint.
