Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority announced during an interview on the “Direct Line” program that work is progressing on the Al Taawun Tunnel Project and its associated roads, with the first phase scheduled for completion ahead of the upcoming Sharjah International Book Fair in November 2026.

The first phase includes the completion of the roads associated with the tunnel, along with two roads leading to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road, strengthening connectivity between major traffic corridors, improving traffic flow, and enhancing road network efficiency in the area.

The Al Taawun Tunnel Project is one of the Authority’s strategic infrastructure initiatives designed to accommodate increasing traffic demand, reduce travel times, and provide road users with a smoother and more efficient mobility experience.

The project forms part of the Authority’s ongoing efforts to deliver integrated road infrastructure that keeps pace with Sharjah’s urban and economic development while enhancing mobility efficiency and quality of life across the Emirate.
